Recognizing that Primary Care Physicians have a wide variety of training the first 2 weeks of the Fellowship are dedicated to a series of educational experiences including:

 

One Day (16 hours) Intensive Review of Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life support.

This event is used to determine to skill level of the individual Fellows as well as serve as an extensive review of the educational material.

Arrow Vascular Academy

This program focuses on reinforcing best practices in Central Venous Access. Instruction is provided on ultrasound-guided vein assessment and access, hands-on simulation, and integration of evidence-based strategies to reduce the risk of complications, including Central Line-Associated Bloodstream Infection (CLABSI). For the current inserter, this program affords opportunities to enhance practical skills and knowledge. For new inserters, it provides foundational knowledge required for inserting CVADs. Subsequent validation of competencies to be managed by inserters’ individual practice settings.

One Day EMR Introduction Course

Real Time EMR Computer Instruction taught at the speed of the learners.

Fellows experience a day in the life of a Paramedic during the EMS Ride a Long Program with Birmingham Fire and Rescue.
